Position Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) or Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) is responsible for safely administering medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and facility policies. This position supports licensed nursing staff while ensuring residents receive safe, timely, and accurate medication administration in a long-term care environment.
Administer oral, topical, inhaled, ophthalmic, otic, and other approved medications as allowed by certification level and state scope of practice
For ACMA: Administer additional medications within advanced certification scope (as permitted by state regulations)
Follow the “Five Rights” of medication administration at all times
Accurately document medication administration in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Monitor residents for side effects, adverse reactions, or changes in condition and report promptly to licensed nurse
Assist with medication pass preparation and cart organization
Perform narcotic counts per policy and report discrepancies immediately
Maintain infection control standards and proper hand hygiene
Ensure medications are stored, secured, and handled in compliance with regulations
Communicate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team
Assist with basic resident care as needed within scope
Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification required
Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) certification required for advanced role
Active Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification (if required by state)
Current CPR certification preferred
Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to push medication cart for extended periods
Ability to assist residents with mobility as needed
Long-Term Care / Skilled Nursing Facility

Weekend and holiday rotation may be required
